Criminal profiling is a tool used in law enforcement to determine many aspects regarding an offender and a crime. It is used to aid law enforcement in narrowing down suspects, finding the right perpetrator, and bringing relief to victim’s families. Profilers use many things when gathering data and coming to conclusions. The case of David Berkowitz (the Sone of Sam), who murdered several individuals in New York during the 1970’s, can be analyzed to show the different sources of information, information gathered, as well as other aspects of criminal profiling to see how the profiler came to their conclusions.
